It's been so long since I have wanted to knit anything. </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
I knit so many socks when I started knitting back in '99 that I was completely over it. I never wanted to see another pair of knitted socks again. Then I started having to buy socks, I don't care what kind you buy, nothing is as comfortable as a hand knit pair of socks. But that still didn't motivate me to get knitting. </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
Then I had to find a blanket for the freezer I call my church. (you could hang meat in there!) I could not find one that fit my needs, it needed first of all to be thick and warm but have the ability to fold up and fit into my church bag, along with all the other things I take with me every Sunday. It needed to reach from my waist to my feet and not be gaudy. After looking around forever, I finally decided I would just have to make my own. The freezing temps (only to me and a few others, everyone else seems to be quite comfortable in the freezer) was what finally motivated me to get out the needles.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
I found some really soft Lion Brand Comfy Cotton in white. Tho it is a cotton yarn, the pattern I used made it quite warm and cozy.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
I cast on 180 sts on size 6 needles and used the linen stitch pattern. Just a heads up, linen stitch on 180 sts takes a WHILE to complete. Since it was winter weather outside and dark by 5 pm, it was also t.v. season (that seems to be the only time of the year we have time to sit down in front of the t.v., that and .......well.....football. </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
Fine! I admit it, most of this blanket was knit during football games. I love football season!</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
It wasn't long until the old habit of not being able to sit down without having something in my hands to knit on kicked in.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
It's been on every since!</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
This is my church blanket. The bestest, comfiest, warmest blanket I've ever made. I love it!</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://lh5.googleusercontent.com/qouVTdw1PtUMHsWxVd5QMvuDtLYcMHhkwHxjiG2iSsQNcHdzZMBGKMd8chZWLSI" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img alt="" border="0" height="400" id="id_bbb0_95ac_d0b9_85f2" src="https://lh5.googleusercontent.com/qouVTdw1PtUMHsWxVd5QMvuDtLYcMHhkwHxjiG2iSsQNcHdzZMBGKMd8chZWLSI" title="" tooltip="" width="400" /> </a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
Shortly after I finished this blanket I noticed a friend shivering in the row across from me. So I grabbed some more needles, some Lion Brand Mondail yarn with some pretty brown and blue colors and cast on 130 sts on size 7 needles and made a garter stitch blanket on one of our three hour, week long trips to the hunting camp, and gifted it to my shivering friend, before she started hugging up to anyone who sat beside her to keep warm. LOL</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
That one I don't have a picture of but trust me, it's really pretty. I love the colors and the striping in the yarn. And ooooo so soft!</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
Afterwards I noticed someone else shivering away. </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
I decided that my large stash of wool would be perfect for making lapghans for my friends at church, so I grabbed the maroon and the green yarn and started knitting garter st blankets. </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
Unfortunately because I have had this wool in my stash so long, the yarn had many breaks in it. The green yarn took as much time tying all the ends together to have enough yarn to finish the blanket, than it did to get it knitted up. Because these two have so many knots in them, I decided they wouldn't be a good enough blanket to give away, but they look really cool on my wing backed chair don't ya think?</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://lh5.googleusercontent.com/XjgU1ywVfsJFyEWIx1E2YEGCHxsNdEFlUNsjtLQI60IxztS0wLFg2FwlBA5e1do" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img alt="" border="0" height="400" id="id_276e_83c4_cca4_1d47" src="https://lh5.googleusercontent.com/XjgU1ywVfsJFyEWIx1E2YEGCHxsNdEFlUNsjtLQI60IxztS0wLFg2FwlBA5e1do" title="" tooltip="" width="400" /></a></div>
<br />
<br />
<div style="text-align: center;">
Then the sock bug hit me, after all these years, I wanted to knit socks again! But alas, our two month winter is over, we might get about three more cold snaps and then we are done for the year. So I decided to save that for football season. </div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
I still need to make the blankets (yes, we need them all year round, and I think more in the summer when they turn the a.c. down) but after four blankets in a row, I wanted to find something else mindless to knit on as t.v. knitting is still on for about another month, maybe. </div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
I started searching around on <a href="https://www.ravelry.com/" target="_blank">Ravelry </a>and found an awesome group</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<a href="https://www.ravelry.com/groups/warmth-for-warriors" target="_blank">Warmth for Warriors</a> then I found their <a href="https://www.facebook.com/Warmth-for-Warriors-85268454227/" target="_blank">Facebook page</a> </div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
and it was on. </div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
I had two children who served overseas, my daughter in Iraq from 2007-2008 and my youngest son in Afghanistan from 2013-2014, so this was something I could get behind. Warm hats from home, hand knit and filled with prayers for each and every one. </div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
So get behind it I did, I just joined the group three days ago, and I have already knit three hats and am almost finished with the fourth. My goal is 30 for March.Since we are going to be traveling in the next few weeks, I think I will be able to accomplish it, or at least get very close.</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
I don't have a lot of 100% wool left, but they do accept other fibers that are given to Vets here in the States. </div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
Guess I am just going to have to use what I have and suffer through buying some more (oh the anguish I put myself through) LOL!</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
These hats are just the basic pattern that they have a link to at the Ravelry page. It's simple, it's mindless t.v. knitting, it's perfect for showing the love and support I have for the American Soldier!</div>

Well that has turned into 3 blankets, cloths for dirty santa at the MIL's this year, AND cloths for a few MORE people.<br />
I have one blanket finished, one will be done by midnight tonight. Yes, I am committed to staying up that late, even with a five a.m. wake up, to finish this blanket and start some cloths that have to be done in less then ten days.<br />
When will I ever, ever learn to start earlier? 😅<br />
I know I work better, faster, under pressure, I've always been a 'last minute freak out and done' kind of person. And this year, it seems, will be no exception.<br />
I will post pics of the blankets tomorrow.<br />
And yes! I will have that second blanket finished by the time I take those pics!<br />
Watch me!Leah ;0)http://www.blogger.com/profile/03296975753097876887noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4118772.post-11132851778679414802017-12-01T12:11:00.000-06:002017-12-01T12:11:15.570-06:00Sewing has been movedI know, I know<br />
You come here for knitting, for ideas and links and patterns, for knitting. (let's not forget the witty conversation too)<br />
So I have moved the sewing to it's own blog.<br />
<a href="http://sewinfun.blogspot.com/" target="_blank">Sewinfun</a> (what else could it be?)<br />
All things sewn will be moved over there so don't forget to bookmark it if you did enjoy seeing what I have been up to sewing wise.<br />
The knitting is zooming along.<br />
I finished Trent's blanket and am about a quarter of the way through Ada's. Tho with this one I am on a deadline. Christmas comes early when you have a grandbrat who lives so far away. So you celebrate when schedules allow everyone to get together.<br />
Which in this case means I have 2 weeks to finish Ada's blanket and make at least 8 dishcloths!<br />
Some for my FIL, some for my MIL, no, they don't share, he likes acrylic and she likes cotton. LOL<br />
And some that were requested for dirty Santa this year.<br />
Yes, that's about as dirty as our Santa gets. ;0)Leah ;0)http://www.blogger.com/profile/03296975753097876887noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4118772.post-68357213664537796332017-11-20T09:27:00.000-06:002017-11-20T09:44:42.394-06:00 Making personal bags with link to tutorial<br />

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
Once a month we go to a local women's shelter with people from our church.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
DD#1 started going with me just a couple of months ago, and decided we needed to make them bags for Christmas.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
Nothing huge, just little personal item bags to put, well, personal items in.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
So a call to duty went out and DD#1 and I broke out the sewing machines. She found an awesome video on YouTube </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://youtu.be/GMNCLw7nzbE?list=FLSGgVZUEjAGPWV1GILsC7aQ" target="_blank">Zipper Pouch Tutorial-Super easy-5 minutes-5 straight seams</a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
And it was on.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
She seemed a little daunted when I told her we would need at least 60 bags. </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
And that is how I got involved in her project. </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
We each get to make 30 bags and then I will stuff them all.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
I am thinking a warm pair of socks, tooth brush and paste, hand sanitizer and maybe some candy.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
Anyway, we took last Saturday, before the game and set up two machines on the kitchen table and hung out, laughed, talked and made bags. </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
I really love the way the 33 we have made so far have come out. And, I actually stole one of hers, (don't worry we have lots and lots of materials) that I really liked. </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
These are just a few pics. When we are finished I will get some pictures for you. </div>

Will post pictures of the rest of them tomorrow.Leah ;0)http://www.blogger.com/profile/03296975753097876887noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4118772.post-17002713378341101822017-11-17T12:22:00.000-06:002017-11-17T12:22:13.848-06:00Knitting blankets and Grandbrats<br />
<br />
<br />
There is still actually knitting going on at the Knittinfun house. Lots of knitting, continuous, one stitch, football watching, evening t.v. knitting.<br />
"Let me make garter stitch blankets" I said, "it will be easy (boring) knitting to make for the babies," I said.<br />
I admit, I get bored really easy with my projects. I can't help it. It starts as a bright flame and visions of piles of garter stitch blankets, and ends with "what was I thinking?!"<br />
But I have a deadline to keep, so I plugged away at it. Sissy B's blanket is probably about only an hour away from being finished. Since she has been the recipient of many of my handmade items when she was little, I had to throw this to the back burner and get started on the babie's blankets to have them finished in time for Christmas.<br />
Don't get all bent out of shape, Sissy B will still receive her hugs from MiMi, just doesn't have to be at Christmas time.<br />
<br />

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
Trent's (Grandbrat #7) blanket has to be finished a lot sooner than that. </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
The picture is a little dark, but this is the same yarn as Sissy B's in blues,blacks, greys and whites. Perfect for a growing boy. </div>

Here is a better picture with some more length on it. </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

This was just about a week ago, and as of 9pm last night it is finished and put in the drawer waiting for prep day.</div>

I will get better pics of the finished blanket after prep day, when it will be all shiny and new looking.</div>

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
We got a special little visitor a little over a week ago. </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
This is Ada Grace (grandbrat #8) </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
She is the spitting image of her father and I think she looks a lot like PawPaw also. </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
She is the quietest little thing and a tad shy. </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
I think that means more trips to visit are in order! </div>

This little guy is the recipient of the blue blanket.<br />
Trent.<br />
He cam to visit MiMi and PawPaw and all those kids.<br />
He is full of life and wonder. And soooo tiny! <br />

He loves PawPaw! <br />

So you see, in and amongst all the sewing and visiting and church and appointments, there is still some knitting going on over at Knittinfun!<br />

My squares are simply one fat quarter cut into quarters. You do the math, I hate that stuff!<br />
I did want this quilt longer than it is wide, so ended up having to use a half, two squares to make one more block. So I also got two more napkins for the dinner table out of making this quilt.<br />
Gotta love the lagniappe! <br />
<br />
<img alt="" id="id_cade_9213_a80f_3f60" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgV9YFgROb6e9z58_h0ZeKSklmW8WekW59hLlCPLzy1h2NvCdg7UdgmUYWDZpnfWdtgPXkOEXfiURi1LbPhS4i8Fxr1KapyuhK8Ogt4IpHM-hYITQeBMrrd1fZpMuP_ojlomUnE/s5000/%255BUNSET%255D" style="height: auto; width: 353px;" title="" tooltip="" /><br />
Don't pay too close attention to the lines, I didn't <br />
<img alt="" id="id_2067_61a2_deb6_2f0f" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEig-yNO4MWeN8eb6CyTwUZPesASckW9qvkpEwMDWAcDX9UYclP7W8w-TINwN_HJ4SFo-q2knNXKAVuwSC77DVdCofG_Fbn8F6m24B6A1XVgfm6OP9AMAdOLnZopxOPsnRAXfQWX/s5000/%255BUNSET%255D" style="height: auto; width: 353px;" title="" tooltip="" /><br />
Slowly but surely coming together.<br />
All the rows were finished, now it was time to connect everything.<br />
<br />
<img alt="" id="id_4664_d525_98ce_eeaa" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgJOVBhT959kxCyzRD0GwIyTz4N31U7aPuANSAL7vkfHB4t_aInz7i6qiAMWJPiuxjbbuCZ8nVGVehzBfOMpqEWvvnjaKQMekrwNUkb0jM5grxwq176qUpwsuywxWvmHdi1jj6w/s5000/%255BUNSET%255D" style="height: auto; width: 353px;" title="" tooltip="" /><br />
And there she is. All sewn together and ready for snipping.<br />
If you can't spot the personality in this quilt, I am sure not going to point it out. ;0)<br />
<br />
<img alt="" id="id_6b26_9ce1_6405_ace" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgqr0TmQKuCOu4iiVoJt8bT2mWLpmGX3l0njdBiVholxMbR3Ojy1FoO-ON6Jock866YE4w3W6tZyBIR3A3SPjs6oa1OXXK9NHhE-8NBpQXyYz_ShCc7ldFE0UQR9QmFsEVOB3iW/s5000/%255BUNSET%255D" style="height: auto; width: 353px;" title="" tooltip="" /><br />
The back side is really eye catching. As in, it might give you a headache if you look at it too long.<br />
But I love this quilt.<br />
<br />
<img alt="" id="id_28c4_4928_787b_e494" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEi5cH3VjV7Oda3sowD4VaGl9AN9DE8pxAmJAAa6xgyYb-KE6UVpNOwZhhXqbMdj3jD8lHaPdxm1QLnbp46wbsNZn64-d6zFMUzXWH8vnBCw2i0FoR9fBZueZAxdG4agUlxsAcT_/s5000/%255BUNSET%255D" style="height: auto; width: 353px;" title="" tooltip="" /><br />
The only downside about this is how long it is going to take to get all the little strings washed out of it. But I throw it in the washer every time I wash towels and it is ragging up really cute.<br />
I will have to get a pic of the front now that it has been washed a few times.<br />
When I do, just don't mind all the strings everywhere, I don't.<br />

<br />
<br />
<br />
I was wandering around Pintrest yesterday trying to find some good Wednesday night, church night, crock pot meals. While I was there I decided to take this week to try out five different ones to see which ones the fam would like.<br />
The kids are really good eaters so I don't have to worry about someone not eating or complaining about not being hungry.<br />
We started with this <a href="https://www.recipesthatcrock.com/crock-pot-cheesy-lasagna/#_a5y_p=4122823" target="_blank">Cheesy Lasagna</a> from Recipes that Crock.com <br />
<img alt="This Crock Pot Cheesy Lasagna will be an INSTANT family favorite! " class="aligncenter size-full wp-image-4048" height="320" src="https://www.recipesthatcrock.com/wp-content/uploads/2015/07/Cheesy-Lasagna-SQ.jpg" width="320" /><br />
In hind sight, using oven ready noodles and cooking the same amount of time was probably not the best idea. I should have cut my cook time down by about an hour and it would have been better. It was still really good tho and has been added to the Wednesday night meal list.<br />
<br />
Tonight we are having<a href="https://www.thecountrycook.net/slow-cooker-pork-chops/" target="_blank"> Smothered Pork Chops</a> from The Country Cook.net<br />
<img border="0" class="" height="212" src="https://www.thecountrycook.net/wp-content/uploads/2011/01/SmotheredPorkChops28copyright2Cwww.thecountrycook.net29-1.jpg" width="320" /><br />
I have to admit, we have had these before and they are absolutely delicious with creamy mashed potatoes.<br />
<br />
Wednesday night we will be having one of the kids favorite crock pot meals so far:<br />
<a href="https://www.recipesthatcrock.com/crock-pot-meatball-sub-casserole/" target="_blank">Crock Pot Meatball Sub Casserole</a> from Recipes That Crock<br />
<img alt="If you love meatball subs, then you want to check out this awesome Crock Pot Meatball Sub Casserole" class="aligncenter size-full wp-image-4866" height="320" src="https://www.recipesthatcrock.com/wp-content/uploads/2016/01/Meatball-Sub-Casserole-SQ.jpg" width="320" /><br />
They would eat this every night of the week if I would make it for them.<br />
It really is a good recipe and easy peasy to throw together.<br />
<br />
<br />
I say all of this to get to the crafting part of this post.<br />
Crock pot meals are awesome for knitting, sewing, crafty fun. Throw everything in there and you have tons of time to get work done.<br />
<br />
I started an easy rag quilt made with fat quarters cut into quarters.<br />
Trin jumped in and helped with the cutting and pinning and placement so I was sewing right along in no time. <br />
If you haven't seen how to make one of these, <a href="https://www.youtube.com/results?search_query=rag+quilt+tutorial" target="_blank">YouTube</a> has tons, <u>literally</u>, of videos.<br />
And then there is always <a href="https://www.google.com/search?source=hp&q=rag+quilt+tutorial&oq=rag+quilt+tu&gs_l=psy-ab.3.0.0l2j0i22i30k1l8.1652.4841.0.6728.13.12.0.0.0.0.170.1553.0j10.10.0....0...1.1.64.psy-ab..3.10.1540.0..35i39k1j0i131k1j0i20i264k1j0i10k1.0.Jc4Q0HWuOws" target="_blank">Google</a>. <br />
<br />
Don't worry about the alignment of the seams in this pic, the strips aren't sewn together yet. They will match up later, I promise.<br />
And you know me, even if the don't "personality" lots and lots of personality!<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgGSjfau2FVQwhYthubp80MkcijuFyiYPufXVT6ldJBPhDXBE31oQnOs36YADNquJTAvIUiaw2O35cLjJdLJvOLCU1w1AT_bUysG85ot8ri4WgW8MGL6mXWwdpQMvOKvIXqfygW/s1600/%255BUNSET%255D" imageanchor="1" style="clear: left; float: left; margin-bottom: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img alt="" border="0" height="320" id="id_88c2_2df5_c1b_8a4b" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgGSjfau2FVQwhYthubp80MkcijuFyiYPufXVT6ldJBPhDXBE31oQnOs36YADNquJTAvIUiaw2O35cLjJdLJvOLCU1w1AT_bUysG85ot8ri4WgW8MGL6mXWwdpQMvOKvIXqfygW/s320/%255BUNSET%255D" title="" tooltip="" width="240" /></a><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiDzeQE6_9C7cWQn-r_M4qZszD6j9WD4bQCNg7QPA7kgEE7EKlWwpfI_6vLdi7ZZocfQUppcoXLSDqB8ew2rpBIoT9UN6AeQ0_hiztfzszBxdkcp2-g39C85hVcZyyynDSOIQQM/s1600/%255BUNSET%255D" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img alt="" border="0" height="320" id="id_e3be_c3f3_6b89_47b2" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiDzeQE6_9C7cWQn-r_M4qZszD6j9WD4bQCNg7QPA7kgEE7EKlWwpfI_6vLdi7ZZocfQUppcoXLSDqB8ew2rpBIoT9UN6AeQ0_hiztfzszBxdkcp2-g39C85hVcZyyynDSOIQQM/s320/%255BUNSET%255D" title="" tooltip="" width="240" /> </a></div>
<div class="" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
Sissy B's blanket is almost finished. I decided to add just a little bit more of a third skein to add some length. I didn't want her to have to ball up under it to keep warm. </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhDCn8ZlYXprKxJRYz9ZoM5oMECmAkQ9D7cWTlnnD2K4X8udwsVYJe9w6gv3HMhOXp4grOCBk2nsmHL74oXfjeDOsrwNoonVc17kcLRfq2hFLnTUDkkAaQw3oBVFl02KB3crtF9/s1600/%255BUNSET%255D" imageanchor="1" style="clear: left; float: left; margin-bottom: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img alt="" border="0" height="640" id="id_a7be_c491_c0_3819" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhDCn8ZlYXprKxJRYz9ZoM5oMECmAkQ9D7cWTlnnD2K4X8udwsVYJe9w6gv3HMhOXp4grOCBk2nsmHL74oXfjeDOsrwNoonVc17kcLRfq2hFLnTUDkkAaQw3oBVFl02KB3crtF9/s640/%255BUNSET%255D" title="" tooltip="" width="480" /> </a> </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
Little Man's blanket is coming right along. </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
I really like the blacks and greys in this colorway that fade into a beautiful blue. </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
Since there are two more blankets that have to be knit after this one. I need to make sure I put at least 25 right side rows on this a day. That's 50 rows that have to be done a day to stay on schedule. </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
Perfect t.v. knitting for when it's time to settle down for the night. <br /> <a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgvyLdARwlW72o3ttDaeEaNKdmMg37_FoCJfXTpM1K1R3GwC64K2iFAbKBg8jBOeXhmdK_9rcicezOlsTNdJ5rb14D2aosN14c1XxP0ZI3SoUE8DQxt2kYgNj-kS0uDJKhkkfyU/s1600/%255BUNSET%255D" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img alt="" border="0" height="640" id="id_7c8b_7a08_1bb4_b569" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgvyLdARwlW72o3ttDaeEaNKdmMg37_FoCJfXTpM1K1R3GwC64K2iFAbKBg8jBOeXhmdK_9rcicezOlsTNdJ5rb14D2aosN14c1XxP0ZI3SoUE8DQxt2kYgNj-kS0uDJKhkkfyU/s640/%255BUNSET%255D" title="" tooltip="" width="480" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
</div>
<br />
So needless to say, I am in love with my crock pot right now. So much to get done, and that little ceramic pot affords me the time to accomplish as much as possible in a day. <br />

<br />
<br />
<div style="text-align: center;">
With Sissy B's blanket almost finished, it was a little too big to bring down to the beach and still keep it sand free. So I grabbed up some extra needles and decided to start on Lil Man's blanket. Still using the Lion Brand Mandala yarn. </div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
Let me tell you, I washed up BB's blanket so I could give it to Mom, wow! This yarn is soft before you wash it, after, it's almost too soft, which makes it perfect for new babies.</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
For Lil Man's blanket I only cast on 130 sts. He is a little guy and I want him to have something he can drag around with him if he wants. </div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
And yes, the kids did eventually, accidentally, sure, uh-huh, knock it off into the sand. </div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
Luckily the beach was dry and a good shake out was all it needed.</div>

<br />Leah ;0)http://www.blogger.com/profile/03296975753097876887noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4118772.post-83982889961726888412017-10-18T08:56:00.001-05:002017-10-18T09:25:11.954-05:00My first binding, I think. Is this really binding?<br />
<br />
<div style="text-align: center;">
It was time to decide how to finish this quilt. I have a navy blue back for it but I wanted that to be a border around the front. </div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
Not going to lie here, I am totally intimidated by the whole binding process. It just looks like one little mess up and I could mess up my whole quilt! And trust me, my quilt has enough "personality" sewn into it already. I don't need to add to it.</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
As in the patches that were supposed to be on the top. Well look where they ended up. Distracted by homework, I sewed them on upside down and didn't even notice until I laid it out for this picture. So the top of the blanket quickly became the bottom. </div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
Personality! </div>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEi6PtES6rMP72uKfO300I7fO-xtkIwFrfgNynGAl0InFxJ8Iz89ff2QXKryzZVJI4dVmMAmqFoDAqpRfSLqoYGa0hsJN2jRhvF74s8b_f9b2SxEwgorQg1qYBRK0mYy4eHDDmp4/s1600/%255BUNSET%255D" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img alt="" border="0" height="400" id="id_a64_c471_bf0a_638" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEi6PtES6rMP72uKfO300I7fO-xtkIwFrfgNynGAl0InFxJ8Iz89ff2QXKryzZVJI4dVmMAmqFoDAqpRfSLqoYGa0hsJN2jRhvF74s8b_f9b2SxEwgorQg1qYBRK0mYy4eHDDmp4/s400/%255BUNSET%255D" title="" tooltip="" width="225" /></a></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
Then DD#1 sent me a pic of a blanket she had made, it was the cutest thing.</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
She had brought the back around to the front and used it as the border. Perfect!</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
The things we learn from our kids! </div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
So I cut my backing bigger than the top and rolled it for a hem.</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
It set the top off perfectly!</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhMInL05D8UbjgJUb1ZGQykGS5V-W35YCNfg9FwqgK6o1q9gmIqD043c1Vbl5mE1c445WJcYyK4acnytNq5jXXNP3qPMw4SsQ5rrDH9yl8M_xHBdWC8LkMW1HQytz4o633UPbUt/s1600/%255BUNSET%255D" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img alt="" border="0" height="320" id="id_2acd_79bd_c8a9_490a" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhMInL05D8UbjgJUb1ZGQykGS5V-W35YCNfg9FwqgK6o1q9gmIqD043c1Vbl5mE1c445WJcYyK4acnytNq5jXXNP3qPMw4SsQ5rrDH9yl8M_xHBdWC8LkMW1HQytz4o633UPbUt/s320/%255BUNSET%255D" title="" tooltip="" width="180" /></a></div>
<br />
<br />
<div style="text-align: center;">
Since there were no blue patches (the flags were the 'blue') doing it this way set it up just the way I wanted. So after a half hour discussion with the BFF on the best way to do this, and to quilt afterwards, I finished pinning it all up.</div>
<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhrp2Hxw2I7SE7RKDBg43JNm2CRPiWLvO6HG4nqHMhJQmS9Ly2NRyFBuQhQDU3ZWyGzhh_18jGqmMXpqsYGAiVtHI_LzL2-tAOHtxtK5yG6FzFFBfxGjnH6KK1Lp6wFOuI1F6el/s1600/%255BUNSET%255D" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img alt="" border="0" height="320" id="id_2419_84eb_3a02_a84d" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhrp2Hxw2I7SE7RKDBg43JNm2CRPiWLvO6HG4nqHMhJQmS9Ly2NRyFBuQhQDU3ZWyGzhh_18jGqmMXpqsYGAiVtHI_LzL2-tAOHtxtK5yG6FzFFBfxGjnH6KK1Lp6wFOuI1F6el/s320/%255BUNSET%255D" title="" tooltip="" width="180" /></a><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgwV2VDsRSSjs7afqbaza8HjHfRJq6Rk3IAZpuGPIwKghc00KDdhG7udIqL_j7Dw9vQMUxm0WKRR0FbA2pdtgSZHC88Zwui_FjASzYaaXy46cgXe5cGJfqy0oUXqSMa2mYIBc3g/s1600/%255BUNSET%255D" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img alt="" border="0" height="320" id="id_ceb0_405_f1f7_8d23" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgwV2VDsRSSjs7afqbaza8HjHfRJq6Rk3IAZpuGPIwKghc00KDdhG7udIqL_j7Dw9vQMUxm0WKRR0FbA2pdtgSZHC88Zwui_FjASzYaaXy46cgXe5cGJfqy0oUXqSMa2mYIBc3g/s320/%255BUNSET%255D" title="" tooltip="" width="180" /> </a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
I spent an hour sewing the binding down. I set the machine on the slowest it would go so I could follow the lines without messing it up. </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
It was so slow grandbrat #5 asked me did my machine go any faster. LOL</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
So it's all pinned and the binding is sewn on and she is ready for some quilting.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
My machine came with a double needle and I am seriously thinking about trying it out for double lines around the seams. It would be the only way there would be any conformity in double lines if I am doing it. </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
This quilt is loaded with my 'personality' but I'm not going to point any out. If you don't notice it then it's all good.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

I love my boots! And that face.<br />
It's always good to be able to get to a game and show them both off.<br />

I love going to Ttown almost as much as my boots.<br />
You just can't beat the feeling of being at a game. The crowd, the noise, the cheers. I just love everything about it.<br />
And it's especially awesome when you meet up with friends, and end up in the perfect seats!<br />

I hate trying to figure out colors and patterns and put them together into something that looks good.<br />
So what do I do, "Hey! Let's start another quilt!"<br />
This one took me and DD#1, well mostly her saying, "why do you keep asking me? I'm throwing out ideas and you're not catching!" , about thirty minutes of moving and switching and flipping to get this design worked out.<br />
I started with red, white, flag. But with the amount I had to work with that would have put some flags touching and some not. It didn't look right at all. So after crawling around for 30 minutes on the floor, this emerged.<br />
Brat #1 helped me pin and label all the rows and I quickly picked it up before I could change my mind again. <br />

Once I get the design process out of the way, I enjoy everything else about quilting. I love to sew I've found out.<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgVj2KuyniEsXH4eqoKd78VJMJ7zbfHpVmiyv2JgsXWduE5MG3OJz4uFUnFZMF6cLoH-nOTUgyAc68KuURdJvRjwDZPrbcTPo0imCTPCsyd6bLCWzb_hIZb3zgGpvlYPe-CNInj/s640/blogger-image-962082541.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgVj2KuyniEsXH4eqoKd78VJMJ7zbfHpVmiyv2JgsXWduE5MG3OJz4uFUnFZMF6cLoH-nOTUgyAc68KuURdJvRjwDZPrbcTPo0imCTPCsyd6bLCWzb_hIZb3zgGpvlYPe-CNInj/s640/blogger-image-962082541.jpg" /></a></div>
And with the new machine it is a dream. This thing is awesome! So much easier to work with than my old one. And it does all kinds of nifty little tricks!<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgEDHZ8vcouX732NdPJ6MvHDr1pVJsRs301ETpCFG-J2bkBQL-4oHlW-o6y8nuiEavqwWZlSLpJL-PnH4PefAwFqXZvbJ7t-YR7fCL3xx7y4zOb-ldShkvvzU3Cza3f0uCqL1gi/s640/blogger-image-1319749055.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="480" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgEDHZ8vcouX732NdPJ6MvHDr1pVJsRs301ETpCFG-J2bkBQL-4oHlW-o6y8nuiEavqwWZlSLpJL-PnH4PefAwFqXZvbJ7t-YR7fCL3xx7y4zOb-ldShkvvzU3Cza3f0uCqL1gi/s640/blogger-image-1319749055.jpg" width="640" /></a></div>
Like this!<br />
I would love to take credit for this idea, but I finally caught something DD#1 was throwing.<br />
She had mentioned that I should put her and her brother's name on the quilt somewhere as a memorial for their service. It was a good idea but I had no clue how I would do it.<br />
Then the new machine showed up.<br />
It really does do some nifty stuff. <br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both;">

I decided to add them to the quilt along the top row. I think it is going to be absolutely adorable when it is finished.<br />
Strings everywhere! <br />

There was weekend knitting. A dear friend invited us to the game. So a four hour ride turned into an almost finished blanket for Sissy B. I am just short a few rows of binding it off and starting on the next one for little Man. </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both;">
I will post pictures when it is finished, hopefully sometime today.</div>

There used to be NFL football, but now it's just SEC, which is fine with me. (don't even get me started)<br>
During the games I get all the knitting time a person needs.<br>
I knit fast during stressful nail biters, and slow and steady when "we got this!"<br>
Sissy B's blanket is growing by leaps and bounds after last Saturday's game. It is almost as long as I am.<br>
Sissy B is almost as tall as me so I am going to finish this up at about my shoulders.<br>
Exactly two skeins of the Lion Brand Mandala yarn is all it will take.<br>
I really love this yarn.<br>
Hopefully Sissy will love her blanket.<br>

You see that monkey sitting on the table? He has been calling Alabama touch downs for 21 years now. He can barely lift his flag anymore, he has been slobbered on by almost every grandbrat we have, pulled on by both the German Shepherds and shoved into many a corner during football games. And he still chants his heart out after every touch down! <br>

Which brought with it wet, humid, muggy, hot air.<br />
But I do hear that somewhere in this country the weather is getting cold. Kudos to you!<br />
Somewhere it is scarf wearing weather!<br />
I love scarves! Naturally I went perusing the internet to see what I might want to make for cold weather, no matter how brief, this year.<br />
Here are some really cute ones!<br />
<a href="https://www.ravelry.com/patterns/library/the-prismatic-scarf" target="_blank">The Prismatic Scarf</a><br />
<img class="photo_image" height="320" id="photo_image_3522058" src="https://farm4.static.flickr.com/3252/2725387560_524097efcf_z.jpg" width="240" /><br />
This pattern can be found on Ravelry, do we really need to have this conversation again? It's free! Join!<br />
<br />
<a href="https://www.ravelry.com/patterns/library/upstairs" target="_blank">Upstairs Pattern</a><br />
<img class="photo_image" height="320" id="photo_image_1762245" src="https://farm2.static.flickr.com/1398/868572215_fc9ec08364_z.jpg" width="240" /><br />
If you are more into lacy and stylish than warmth this is perfect.<br />
I think this would also be a great gift for someone on your gift knitting list.<br />
Just sayin'<br />
<br />
<a href="https://www.ravelry.com/patterns/library/cerus-scarf" target="_blank">Cerus Scarf </a><br />
<img class="photo_image" height="320" id="photo_image_7679746" src="https://farm4.static.flickr.com/3573/3288553441_7677ee1c55_z.jpg" width="213" /><br />
I made this scarf a few years ago for my Uncle for Christmas.<br />
It was an easy pattern to follow and makes a great gift for any man on you list.<br />
<br />
<a href="https://www.ravelry.com/patterns/library/holding-hands-feeding-ducks" target="_blank">Holding Hands, Feeding Ducks Scarf</a><br />
Or star stitch scarf<br />
<img class="photo_image" height="236" id="photo_image_825546" src="https://farm3.static.flickr.com/2300/1956204548_ef04ffbd24_z.jpg" width="320" /><br />
While this would be pretty in any yarn, I think it is perfect for the more colorful yarns.<br />
<br />
<a href="http://knittinfun.blogspot.com/2010/10/long-awaited-scarf-pattern.html" target="_blank">Side to Side Self Fringing Scarf </a><br />
<img border="0" height="320" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjbToi1J6YPSDucontP5BzfVjdV3dcu-ZRTwFlAmiX_hYoWCvYuuzLekyNW7q3-68QDqrVNfPiMMPYl8BcnlCykYwggnjZ9fdJku3Dno2rqwuUJ7AiILfn8SVB7T-Y7BYXNckd5/s320/IMG_0595.JPG" width="240" /><br />
If you like fringe, this is the easiest pattern ever.<br />
<br />
<br />
<a href="https://www.ravelry.com/patterns/library/q-2" target="_blank">Q</a><br />
<img data-photo-id="9704245" src="https://farm3.static.flickr.com/2796/4278342737_b018919304_n.jpg" style="left: 0px; top: -6px; width: 210px;" /><br />
Another really nice one for a guy.<br />
<br />
<br />
<a href="https://www.ravelry.com/patterns/library/miras-cowl" target="_blank">Mira Cowl</a><br />
<img class="height_lock" data-photo-id="20830342" src="https://images4-b.ravelrycache.com/uploads/knitaknit/85065780/Mira_s_Cowl_013_small2.JPG" style="left: -6px; top: -46px;" /><br />
One of my faves. I made quite a few of the cowl patterns as gifts a few years ago, even made one for PB to wear when he is hunting.<br />
Knit in Lorna Laces camo yarn it kept his neck toasty warm. <br />
<img data-photo-id="22694672" height="320" src="https://images4-e.ravelrycache.com/uploads/knittinfun/97147532/pb1_medium.jpg" style="left: 0px; width: 210px;" width="191" /><br />
And he's just cute, I had to put his picture up! ;0)<br />
<br />
So there are plenty of options for keeping the howling wind from going down the back of your neck, fancy, lacy. And any of these would be welcome gifts for the upcoming season.<br />
<br />
<br />

Hurricane knitting My lines are a little gimped up, mostly crooked and nowhere near the 'ditch', but it's finished. It's my first quilt. And I love it!<br />
It was definitely a learning experience. Just like my first knit sock. It was the ugliest thing ever and the sts were tight in some places and loose in another and my heel had gaps. But it was my first sock, and I still wear them today.<br />
The walker foot definitely made this go by a lot faster with not as much effort. A must have to keep that batting from creeping, no matter how many pins I stuck in it.<br />
Unless I decide to start another one today, this will be the first and last quilt on this machine.<br />
My singer is bare bones minimum and I decided I wanted something that does just a little bit more for Christmas. PB, being the sweetie pie he is decided I didn't need to wait until Christmas and let me go ahead and pick one out.<br />
I was helping him by showing him what I wanted for Christmas, stop the Christmas Eve struggle for him, but hey! Ok, I'll get one now and he can struggle through another Christmas Eve shopping spree. :0) More about the new machine later.<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEj1cXTpPccfBN5O6T-WQOb3CzHBVZe3V_gsN3VZe0AK9xwccynUMRbl3fPGv275KaGjf_DdCnt2ga5RKq7XNKTZuVt-WVI5lmjZNuVf_5U4eb6TqHK2Fv8txZRGSnA_0vH4AgwW/s640/blogger-image-639045693.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEj1cXTpPccfBN5O6T-WQOb3CzHBVZe3V_gsN3VZe0AK9xwccynUMRbl3fPGv275KaGjf_DdCnt2ga5RKq7XNKTZuVt-WVI5lmjZNuVf_5U4eb6TqHK2Fv8txZRGSnA_0vH4AgwW/s640/blogger-image-639045693.jpg" /></a></div>
Here she is! All finished, washed and dried. That was the worst part for me, waiting to see if it survived the washing machine. But all the worry was for naught, it's nice and clean and fluffed and smells like Snuggle! (excuse the mess, hubby didn't make the bed when he got up!) and no, I didn't make it either for the picture. LOL<br />
Those little squares in the top corner are the beginnings of my next quilt. Like my knitting, by the time I am finished with what I'm working on, I have already moved on to what I am going to do next. <br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiaauXSYQR_gK5pGDoqFEK9D_aE2mC7NPL0J93GLnE2Oso9EIcBMfPb7nD5MjeWEBV0uk5Z3Y6bq1SXuDYbwLq7Z-mZBz2EXoxf0T2MVEABoFExibqPgeHFXkPDforrheKz8Yj4/s640/blogger-image-592325370.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiaauXSYQR_gK5pGDoqFEK9D_aE2mC7NPL0J93GLnE2Oso9EIcBMfPb7nD5MjeWEBV0uk5Z3Y6bq1SXuDYbwLq7Z-mZBz2EXoxf0T2MVEABoFExibqPgeHFXkPDforrheKz8Yj4/s640/blogger-image-592325370.jpg" /></a></div>
As you can see on the back, I just stitched the lines around the squares. Nothing fancy, just a basic, snuggly warm quilt.<br />
Do you see that orange square turned up at the bottom?<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiyHxwsXkB09HG8k-Ve7gUgWrHzipGgN-mszYKtJwcMN-qFJhMv0QT3nzPdxynZBFrfprbmMbQ3r2qsaRjZIT1qjLKInPj0X3LNKtfyqEBPFvEt4Fc9hFYDg-izcKOC0umTxnXD/s640/blogger-image--176372138.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiyHxwsXkB09HG8k-Ve7gUgWrHzipGgN-mszYKtJwcMN-qFJhMv0QT3nzPdxynZBFrfprbmMbQ3r2qsaRjZIT1qjLKInPj0X3LNKtfyqEBPFvEt4Fc9hFYDg-izcKOC0umTxnXD/s640/blogger-image--176372138.jpg" /></a></div>
Yes, it is sewn that way, I gimped up this block and thought I could fix it by sewing it. Didn't work!<br />
But I don't care. Like I said, learning experiences. And it's mine! All mine!<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both;">

I did get quite a bit done on Sissy B's blanket during the football game last Saturday, there was some serious fast knitting going on! Whew! We barely pulled that one off!.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both;">
We got to watch half of the game before the power went out thanks to hurricane Nate. After that it was all radio, which made me knit faster while trying to visualize what in the world our guys were up to. </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both;">
It is now about 3/4 of the way finished. I need to get on it so I can start the little kids blankets to have them finished in time for Christmas. Their's are not going to be big, bed sized blankets. I'm going for something they can carry around with them or snuggle under to watch Saturday morning cartoons. </div>

Knit spelled backwards.<br />
So what is it called when you have to un-quilt a line? Like a whole line.<br />
I spent the better part of the last two days unsewing my first line of quilting.<br />
I guess I got so excited about actually getting to the quilting part, I skipped the basting, pinning and straightening part.<br />
I only tell you this so that you can learn from my experience.<br />
DON'T SKIP IT.<br />
But I guess you already knew that, I'm a little more stubborn and hard headed than most. <br />
I was buzzing right along, excited about finally making my quilt A quilt. Get all the way to the end of my line and well look at that! Here is all the batting, just lying down there in a pile!<br />
Ok, Ok, lesson learned.<br />
After un-quilting I started again, straightened everything back out, basted everything down with pins, added the new walking foot to the machine and wala! Better results the second time around.<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjfMdkwKGQedq1a245cURWsIj5p26-v-J-UooILJFVlf4KqKv4fGiN3Crgs0rIcCF2LFS5TqQonnw9dwD80oW-vv2QrAtNgKsJU8EwG6sOIpceGmvuevQoAZlhvugi3z1i145el/s640/blogger-image--1715073239.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjfMdkwKGQedq1a245cURWsIj5p26-v-J-UooILJFVlf4KqKv4fGiN3Crgs0rIcCF2LFS5TqQonnw9dwD80oW-vv2QrAtNgKsJU8EwG6sOIpceGmvuevQoAZlhvugi3z1i145el/s320/blogger-image--1715073239.jpg" width="240" /> </a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both;">
For some reason it already looks quilted in this picture. This was before all that pinning. </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both;">
Speaking of the walking foot, get one, as soon as possible, run out and buy one before you ever cut your first square. It is amazing. All I had to do once I installed it is hold the fabric straight so it wouldn't gather up. The feet on top and bottom pulled the material through on it's own. It's awesome! Get one!</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both;">
I did get almost all of my lines finished yesterday. I am hoping to finish it today and get some pictures. </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both;">
It's a good thing this is a learning curve quilt and just for me. It wouldn't win any awards. </div>

Finished my first quilt top!I've always liked ponchos, before Martha Stuart made them a fad, I liked them.<br />
But I don't like them short. I like them to come down to at least mid thigh. The cutsie ones that come to your waist, well those are ok for people who don't freeze once the temperature gets below 80 degrees. I do.<br />
The best part about fall to me is now I don't look so weird wearing all my long sleeved shirts.<br />
I may live in the south, it might reach 102 degrees, but when it is freezing everywhere you go, church, the grocery store, home, work, restaurants, I tend to always have a long sleeved shirt or jacket nearby. And since PB is always complaining about the jackets I wear in church, (he says they aren't fancy enough to wear to church) I decided maybe a nice hand knit poncho might make him happy, and keep me stylishly warm.<br />
I like this one:<br />
<a href="https://www.ravelry.com/patterns/library/hugo-3" target="_blank">Hugo</a><br />
<img class="photo_image" height="200" id="photo_image_28738698" src="https://images4-e.ravelrycache.com/uploads/thelitsy/140580063/20121116-152840_2697-1_medium2.jpg" width="173" /><br />
This free pattern is at Ravelry, I know I've said it before, but here it comes again. If you haven't registered at Ravelry yet, you should, and why wouldn't you? It's FREE.<br />
<br />
<br />
If you don't mind sewing pieces together and fringe, this cute poncho is perfect for football, soccer, any games that have you hovering outside in the cold weather.<br />
<br />

<br />
Tho this is a cape, I had to add it here. I love the simplicity of this pattern and if made in wool, this could actually be my perfect church cover up.<br />

<br />
If you need pockets there is always this cozy poncho knit with bulky yarn. I also like the collar on this one. <br />

Loving that cable down the center!<br />

I would really like to see this knitted up. The picture looks interesting.<br />

<br />
My very first ever, never before done, go me! quilt top is finished!<br />
I didn't have the batting and backing I needed because I assumed it would take me longer than 45 minutes to sew all the rows and columns together and get the seams all pressed out.<br />
Some of my lines are a little wonky, but just like with may knitting, any mistakes are proof I made it. LOL.<br />
I went to Wally World and picked up the batting, some basting spray and a neutral color sheet for the backing. By the time I got back home it was too late to be working on this. Dinner was almost ready!<br />
I plan on getting it all sandwiched up today before I head out for my evening plans. <br />
<br />

I really like it! I think it came out cute! <br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both;">
</div>
I am just going to stitch the ditches in this one for the quilting. I watched a few YouTube videos yesterday for free hand quilting but I think I am going to do some practicing before I actually apply that to anything. Besides, this just begs for straight lines don't you think?<br />

Seems simple enough. Especially since I did just like I do with my knitting and went all out crazy buying up fat quarters at Walmart and on Ebay. Building up a stash of stuff that would sit in a box somewhere then when I found a use for them, I would not remember I had them and go out and buy some more. So, ya, just like my knitting.<br />
Anywho I did have a pile of fat quarters I wanted to use up so I decided it's time to start my first ever quilt.<br />
After pressing (yes BFF! I pressed, didn't wash, just pressed) and cutting them all into quarters I spent the next two hours on the floor in my bedroom arranging and rearranging, sending pics to DD#1 and the BFF asking for opinions and rearranging some more.<br />
Just like with my knitting, I hate this part! Deciding what colors look good, creating some kind of pattern out of the colors that make sense.<br />
I literally hate this part!<br />
It finally got down to two I thought would look decent.<br />
This first one was ok until DD#1 sent me a message and said "are you making that for an LSU fan?"<br />
Um........NO! This isn't going to work!<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiVjzQuVWCQjFKxOpRP37aEhuViKqE5RJ_00vCibbf55_Cnk5c4T5OGPATVlmXhLQhDMIx3VB0nXWkaxqqx_lzeVeXveS232OyN33iZyTaVUuLLxtTGY7EogI7iPPNUhql69f1O/s640/blogger-image--2027826377.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiVjzQuVWCQjFKxOpRP37aEhuViKqE5RJ_00vCibbf55_Cnk5c4T5OGPATVlmXhLQhDMIx3VB0nXWkaxqqx_lzeVeXveS232OyN33iZyTaVUuLLxtTGY7EogI7iPPNUhql69f1O/s640/blogger-image--2027826377.jpg" /></a></div>
So then there was this. It's kind of like two overlapping crosses, that I liked. So this is the pattern I went with. Except that bright yellow you see there. That had to be moved as far away from the purple as possible. ;0). So I changed the yellow out with the cream in the corners. <br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both;">
</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both;">
</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgKPpk06_RAZq2sL9i19dELnQnvHpylGebkG8bvii5B0n2S-YlLWRSCAPWDqssobhLRoQRiW4pX8Qsisb_EVJBBmh-FbENT2Y12CRm17OkM0PbTK8nVbqU2z70V44juwdOWRMfT/s640/blogger-image--63803918.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="180" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgKPpk06_RAZq2sL9i19dELnQnvHpylGebkG8bvii5B0n2S-YlLWRSCAPWDqssobhLRoQRiW4pX8Qsisb_EVJBBmh-FbENT2Y12CRm17OkM0PbTK8nVbqU2z70V44juwdOWRMfT/s320/blogger-image--63803918.jpg" width="320" /> </a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both;">
After collecting all my rows and marking them, I started the sewing. It didn't take long at all to get three rows put together while my sweetie pie finished cooking dinner. </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both;">
And yes there was more ripping. Even tho I was not the one cooking, I was still involved and distracted, in the end I had to rip out three blocks that I had put together backwards. Sigh! But I still got the three rows finished before the dinner bell. </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both;">
I think it is going to look good when I finally get it all pieced together. </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both;">
I haven't quite decided what I am going to use for the backing on this yet. I may just end up going with a sheet in a bright solid color. Like that yellow. </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both;">
I am not going to do a binding on this quilt. I'm going completely old school. </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both;">
I don't think back in the day quilts were made to win awards as much as they were to keep you from freezing to death in your sleep. Plus, I read somewhere online that you can not enter a quilt that doesn't have binding in a contest. Well! That's a tad snooty don't ya think? </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both;">
For my first quilting I am going to do straight lines. Mainly because I have no idea how to do anything else. Don't worry, I have YouTube, it taught me how to knit in '97, I'm sure I can learn how to free hand quilt in '18. </div>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both;">

<div class="separator" style="clear: both;">
I
had a talk with one of Santa's helpers and text him a picture of the
new sewing machine I want for Christmas, then I will try designs. </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both;">
It's not the best and the biggest, but since everything I will be doing is for the house, it's is all I need. </div>
Tho I was eyeballing that serger machine. I just can't bring myself to pay that much for a machine just for finishing. If I was doing it professionally? Maybe. But I'm not and to me, that is crazy.<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both;">

Leah ;0)http://www.blogger.com/profile/03296975753097876887noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4118772.post-74751084853320321582017-09-29T09:34:00.000-05:002017-09-29T09:34:01.395-05:00Sewing project: My first pieced together blanket Picture heavy (again)I took the pattern I showed you yesterday and got started on a little car seat blanket as soon as I got home from work.<br />
Side note: It may say quilt but it's not. It's a blanket. Look up rag quilt on Google and you get a whole different animal. But I really like it, especially here on the Gulf Coast where a cotton blanket will get a lot more use than anything heavy and hot. <br />
The longest part about this whole thing was trying to decide how I wanted to set up the pattern.<br />
I really like this one, but I didn't have enough of anyone one of these colors to double it so that was a no go.<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiyri4luFDP3bkcDpE20F9lzMT9xrPuZvfXDpOhautjXjvcgNyIKNa8S-QpKS0GnFJk5xLQEFB9DCrPk57SZg1XQfhWl8eZaHq5OQ-OLsFJ6NznvdbGAsvkaxjHl3j1Iqd7rP7M/s640/blogger-image-1568691079.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiyri4luFDP3bkcDpE20F9lzMT9xrPuZvfXDpOhautjXjvcgNyIKNa8S-QpKS0GnFJk5xLQEFB9DCrPk57SZg1XQfhWl8eZaHq5OQ-OLsFJ6NznvdbGAsvkaxjHl3j1Iqd7rP7M/s640/blogger-image-1568691079.jpg" /></a></div>
Then I decided to break it down to car seat size and go with polka dots and elephants. I wanted the elephants on the "non rag" side, so I came up with this pattern.grey polka dots in the corners and the reverse side, those greys are elephants.<br />
I am so glad I decided car seat size because three times I had to rip out seams and start over for putting the rows together backwards. One row had a seam on top, the next had the seam on the bottom. (it was a learning process) and I highly recommend making a small one of these as a learning curve for quilt tops. and a good seam ripper. I highly recommend one of those too. <br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEggTQii_kiJo2vr5j7GixTdQFZ4iN_w7XeR5pX39JqVtmSU-NmsRc1OxP2D9ZBnasOz0yJtpTZ0DpvjW4IDJbQOWH7tgt6H_kDX7wz2iDOoCfh7ks3F7dhnHq5Rjl-WFnuXDdZy/s640/blogger-image--8031684.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEggTQii_kiJo2vr5j7GixTdQFZ4iN_w7XeR5pX39JqVtmSU-NmsRc1OxP2D9ZBnasOz0yJtpTZ0DpvjW4IDJbQOWH7tgt6H_kDX7wz2iDOoCfh7ks3F7dhnHq5Rjl-WFnuXDdZy/s640/blogger-image--8031684.jpg" /></a></div>
Here she is all sewn and ripped and resewn. I like the way it came out. Especially for my first attempt it's not too bad.<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEikqflF_Q1SOKRP9fZ4G89QQATfi4sYeNo7s9ynf6_M-fMbcpYIMDEvFPRZjjga4qwzlIqCPa1slHyuK2nI72Ixx8IKmVeqR2zLp_qJsm8woWvfRo0TwsM9h8_ugJTXKUeshAUE/s640/blogger-image-982178491.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEikqflF_Q1SOKRP9fZ4G89QQATfi4sYeNo7s9ynf6_M-fMbcpYIMDEvFPRZjjga4qwzlIqCPa1slHyuK2nI72Ixx8IKmVeqR2zLp_qJsm8woWvfRo0TwsM9h8_ugJTXKUeshAUE/s640/blogger-image-982178491.jpg" /></a></div>
Yes I am 51 and yes I wear Converses, I love canvas shoes. And yes I've heard a million times that they are more for the 'younger' people. I wear my Van's and cowboy boots too. Deal!<br />
<br />
The lines on the back aren't perfect. As my BFF pointed out (she's my favorite critic) I should have ironed my pieces before anything else. Like with my knitting, I usually forgo all the "should haves" and just went with it the way it was. In hindsight, ironing my have helped square up those lines. But it's ok. It's going to be puked on, dropped in the floorboard, left in a diaper bag for weeks. It's close enough to perfect for me. <br />

The cutting of the edges didn't take me near as long as I thought it would. I had it finished well before bedtime last night. And that was with a 3 hour hiatus to go eat dinner with Brat #1.<br />
It is in the drawer now, ready for prep day. <br />

All in all it was fun to throw together real quick and I can see myself making lots and lots more. I do think it will help me in creating my first quilt top. Which will be my very first project as soon as gift crafting season is finished.</div>

I really like how this yarn works up. It has a nice stitch definition and until everyone else goes out and tries it, it's not expensive at all.<br />
Granted that will change when it starts flying off the shelves.<br />
<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both;">
I worked on this all day Saturday watching football. </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both;">
I tend to knit faster when I am seriously into something I'm watching. </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both;">
That wasn't the case during the Alabama game last weekend. It was a walk in the park so it was slow and steady knitting.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both;">
Ole Miss? Yeah, I expect some speed knitting to be going on this Saturday.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both;">
<br /></div>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both;">
</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgNJ8huP6SJMJXV2OumyBDEiWRxS6yysqjdwFpaXuyVmIMkk8Vr0hoSKit-teUD8s5jzdO7tWCPHyBAEye4VYCMXwI3mc2NA7UGLjHfcgRiFuGCdaQ-u_P8fKdTL-NXAN7rsVLL/s640/blogger-image-1182444922.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgNJ8huP6SJMJXV2OumyBDEiWRxS6yysqjdwFpaXuyVmIMkk8Vr0hoSKit-teUD8s5jzdO7tWCPHyBAEye4VYCMXwI3mc2NA7UGLjHfcgRiFuGCdaQ-u_P8fKdTL-NXAN7rsVLL/s640/blogger-image-1182444922.jpg" /></a></div>
<br />
<br />
As you can tell by the pictures, this blanket grew fairly quickly. And I love the not so girly, but girly, colors of this yarn. So much so that I bought two more skeins to finish Sissy B's blanket in time for Christmas. And two skeins for Grandbats #6,7 & 8<br />
I did end up having to add the smidge from another skein to finish this up. I measured the width at 28" so I wanted the length to be the same. <br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEj90A2IsiTtiXEmyOeG_7lzDSNqVp3hVhz0jkQiKE3Ecp1Tp02QOyBy-XWFLJUE-jUdPDdVQD6IgH5rvT7bZm4X9nnbJxyawGSvD_0ks1e5dYPo2A2rhnRV9lzHuZGlFIydP9t5/s640/blogger-image--2083563550.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEj90A2IsiTtiXEmyOeG_7lzDSNqVp3hVhz0jkQiKE3Ecp1Tp02QOyBy-XWFLJUE-jUdPDdVQD6IgH5rvT7bZm4X9nnbJxyawGSvD_0ks1e5dYPo2A2rhnRV9lzHuZGlFIydP9t5/s640/blogger-image--2083563550.jpg" /></a></div>
<br />
And here she is! All finished up. 28x28 perfect car seat, throw in the diaper bag, drag around with baby size. I haven't washed it up yet to see how the yarn holds up. I can't imagine it getting any softer than it already is, but we will see.<br />
It is in the drawer with the receiving blanket and burp cloths and bib, waiting for prep day.<br />

<div class="separator" style="clear: both;">
Up next I found the cutest pattern online for a rag quilt. </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both;">
It looks fairly simple and Wally World sells fat quarters for like 97 cents. I bought all they had in the pattern I want, just waiting on them to get some more in so I can get that finished as well.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both;">
This is the pattern I am going to start with</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both;">
<a href="http://www.peekaboopages.com/2012/02/30-minute-rag-quilt.html" target="_blank">30 Minute Baby Quilt</a></div>

<div class="separator" style="clear: both;">
I love these! They look really cute and easy! </div>

</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
My DD #1 has always been more of a tomboy. She was tougher than most boys her age, and had her Mama's mouth. </div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
So I was happily surprised to see her slowly become domesticated. </div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
Sewing cloth napkins and selling them to make extra money.</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
And apparently she's really good at it. (proud Mama voice)</div>
<br />
<div style="text-align: center;">
<a href="https://www.facebook.com/RaesCrafts16/?notif_t=fbpage_fan_invite&notif_id=1505872112329762" target="_blank"> Rae's Crafts FB Page </a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://scontent-dft4-1.xx.fbcdn.net/v/t1.0-9/21761636_941133019373860_1048232695058156308_n.jpg?oh=f9353a5cdb6fa8a1baa486a1d5e80b4d&oe=5A57B62E" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img alt="No automatic alt text available." border="0" class="spotlight" src="https://scontent-dft4-1.xx.fbcdn.net/v/t1.0-9/21761636_941133019373860_1048232695058156308_n.jpg?oh=f9353a5cdb6fa8a1baa486a1d5e80b4d&oe=5A57B62E" style="height: 225px; width: 225px;" /></a></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
Then she decided that arm knitting would be a good family project her and the kids could do together during a night of t.v. watching. </div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
I never really took much notice of arm knitting, figured it was a fad that would fade pretty quickly. I mean like really?!? </div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
But she got so excited about it, I decided to give it a looksy. And now I have, yes! have to! knit one of these! 30 minutes! A whole, warm, snuggly blanket! You know I would have to try. </div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
So of course being a visual person, I started with YouTube and found a couple of good videos.</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<a href="https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CcHRoHENZQc&feature=youtu.be" target="_blank">How To Arm Knit A Blanket for Beginners </a></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
That would be me. I like the CO in this version.</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
Which led me to this video</div>

<div style="text-align: center;">
You can purl too </div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
Needless to say, I can't start anything new while gift knitting season is upon me. </div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
But as soon as it is over I am going to try this whole arm knitting thing.</div>

<div style="clear: left; float: left; margin-bottom: 1em; margin-right: 1em;">
</div>
<br />
<img class="photo_image" height="400" id="photo_image_39400667" src="https://images4-b.ravelrycache.com/uploads/tikki/224864891/image_medium2-14_medium.jpg" width="400" /><br />
<div style="text-align: left;">
<a href="http://www.ravelry.com/patterns/library/gidday-baby" target="_blank">Gidday Baby </a></div>
No, I know that's not a hat, but this is the sweater I have picked out to make for BB. Using a few pieces of the LB Mandala for the contrasting color, I think it will work just perfectly!<br />
Once the sweater was picked out, the bib was knit, the blanket is finished, I need a hat. Not just any hat, I want cute and original and ease of use.<br />
I have been searching all around the web and then today I came across this little hat<br />
<div style="text-align: center;">
<a href="https://www.purlsoho.com/create/2014/01/23/lauras-loop-garter-ear-flap-hat/" target="_blank">Garter Ear Flap Hat</a> from Purl Soho </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://www.purlsoho.com/create/wp-content/uploads/2014/01/garter-stitch-hat-600-7.jpg" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img alt="Garter Ear Flap Hat | Purl Soho" border="0" height="320" src="https://www.purlsoho.com/create/wp-content/uploads/2014/01/garter-stitch-hat-600-7.jpg" width="222" /></a></div>
You have probably already seen this hat, but I have knott. (see what I did there?)<br />
Now I have the whole ensemble picked out. I need to get into some serious knitting mode. I have three and a half weeks!<br />
Thank you Jesus the blanket is going quickly. That's going to be the biggest part.Leah ;0)http://www.blogger.com/profile/03296975753097876887noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4118772.post-64957308327149891122017-09-19T10:55:00.000-05:002017-09-19T10:55:29.922-05:00Happy with the results so farI am obsessed with knitting on this blanket.<br />
I love color changes, it keeps me knitting away like a fiend to get to the next color, without all the stopping and changing, ends to weave in, all the stuff I don't like.<br />
I must correct my previous post, this is 125 sts on size 6 needles.<br />
It is coming out the perfect size for carrying around with baby.<br />
I am knitting the old way on this blanket because, honestly, until I get used to picking my sts, I knit much faster throwing. The only reason I want to try and get used to picking is for the relief on my shoulders and wrists. It is much easier on me, but much, much slower for my knitting. And bye bye to getting perfect gauge every time. When I pick my stitches, they are vastly tighter than any other knitting I do. Which as you can imagine, makes it hard to do stranded knitting with two hands.<br />
So right now, I'm still throwin'<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both;">
</div>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEigWJ8cqlUOd2GcvAr1jElCTr8tGCTeUd036BwVdQRllkNSAfZlmweNF5GYvVR-iliHXK-IhOv0ncEGM5vaN8g0WvhyphenhyphenRFCMHpRzZJABefrujhlhEIKaXprrB2Jqaj-vSXk7tifu/s640/blogger-image--825567513.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEigWJ8cqlUOd2GcvAr1jElCTr8tGCTeUd036BwVdQRllkNSAfZlmweNF5GYvVR-iliHXK-IhOv0ncEGM5vaN8g0WvhyphenhyphenRFCMHpRzZJABefrujhlhEIKaXprrB2Jqaj-vSXk7tifu/s640/blogger-image--825567513.jpg" /></a></div>
And look at that stitch definition, it is perfect! So, I'm just making a suggestion, but next time you need to whip up a quickie baby blanket, Lion Brand Mandala and garter st will get you all the compliments you deserve. <br />

I was at Wally World for like the tenth time in a week and had a minute to spare so, as my usual, I go back and check out the cotton yarn for cloths and bibs and such. Sometimes they have a colorway I just love and have to have, most times not ;0(, but I digress.<br />
I came upon an endcap filled with this awesome yarn.<br />
Lion Brand Mandala, did you know about this yarn?!? If you did, why didn't you tell me about this yarn ?!?<br />
I wanted to find something I could make BB a blanket out of that wouldn't be so overwhelmingly girly but still be sweet. Bam! Here it is!<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgeU6t1dSLhLGl7FyGQnFH4LUKJAXxMK0i4_gwdl7nXCMlGfd-ycMsZnvDjQ5_yjIEXMSZd6svR7EDYrpNmzOx-WVAmEvYzr9C1RcAoq1lmxKdsK8YJ79PEIGoJFh_MnPJxzmUo/s640/blogger-image-1178704964.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="400" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgeU6t1dSLhLGl7FyGQnFH4LUKJAXxMK0i4_gwdl7nXCMlGfd-ycMsZnvDjQ5_yjIEXMSZd6svR7EDYrpNmzOx-WVAmEvYzr9C1RcAoq1lmxKdsK8YJ79PEIGoJFh_MnPJxzmUo/s400/blogger-image-1178704964.jpg" width="300" /></a></div>

<div style="text-align: center;">
I couldn't wait to cast on! So when I finally got home, I had to finish up the Tweetypie bib before I could cast on anything else. (self imposed rules) So, with a little help from her Majesty, Protector of all things yarny, I finished the bib. </div>

I cast on 170 sts, on size 7 circs and went to town on some t.v. knitting. I love this colorway. There is plenty of yardage in each color so I wasn't getting stripes of colors but whole blocks.</div>

As the monster grew and grew, I started to realize that this was going
to be waaaayyyy to big for a baby blanket. One that could easily be
carried around with a baby and all accompanying equipment.<br />
But it is way to pretty to rip out and start over. So I made an executive decision to finish the first skein of yarn, leave it on the needles and start the second skein for a more baby mama friendly blanket. This blanket will be finished as soon as all the BB work is done. It will now be Sissy B's Christmas blanket. I haven't knit anything for Sissy since she was about two years old, so it's time. <br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhiFHg5Q-i3i-AWsJlyMYCxSTwL7ZiizrNZ0z2AUUO68HZAaVUYjxvN6PVJJOrsdz3wkhgAES8nWK7mtCCBbHRht9-ymShWmYA4Ju_T2nOZVMTyJuVGZDZ36OloWg0TR7gme574/s640/blogger-image-1434393545.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="clear: right; float: right; margin-bottom: 1em; margin-left: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhiFHg5Q-i3i-AWsJlyMYCxSTwL7ZiizrNZ0z2AUUO68HZAaVUYjxvN6PVJJOrsdz3wkhgAES8nWK7mtCCBbHRht9-ymShWmYA4Ju_T2nOZVMTyJuVGZDZ36OloWg0TR7gme574/s320/blogger-image-1434393545.jpg" width="240" /></a></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
The second try was on size 6 needles with 120 sts. I love this blanket. It is the perfect size and the blocks of color are awesome. With the yardage I'm getting out of this yarn, I don't think it is going to take much more than this one skein. If it does, it won't be but a smidge.</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
There is only one thing I do not like about this yarn. Small thing really. Both skeins had ends tied together, not far into the first color out of the center. That little strand you see sticking out there in the last picture? That's where they tied it on the second skein. I don't care for that at all, but not a deal breaker. </div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
Otherwise, I love this yarn. </div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
And garter stitch....................don't get me started about my love for garter stitch blankets!</div>

BB will be here in just a few short months. </div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
Well I say a few, I'm sure Mama says it seems like forever. </div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
I wanted to make some hand made gifts for the shower next month. Try some new things I've never done before. And here is the result. </div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
Warning, I have just started sewing, I know they aren't perfect, but just like with my knitting, it ads to the charm of receiving hand made gifts. You can definitely tell mine are hand made. </div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
I think they cam out really cute though.</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
I bought a towel and cut it down to make some burp cloths that would be soft and absorbent on both sides. Let me tell you, it looked like it had snowed in my dining room. Whew! Lint everywhere!</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both;">

<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
I took the scraps from making the receiving blanket and made up two burp cloths that will match and make a set.</div>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both;">
</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhSMBQ3oBVnTv5-G0mxfIIgFpgGjWJH27kwLx4s1R4hQZFoHyVrhhd2JNezbaM-rexXaExQgJtB_aCAMV-ibleUnkXGMEY2LXdrG3U-gE0AWLldhIx12bdYhLrniqr1ym5I3ecf/s640/blogger-image--959949602.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhSMBQ3oBVnTv5-G0mxfIIgFpgGjWJH27kwLx4s1R4hQZFoHyVrhhd2JNezbaM-rexXaExQgJtB_aCAMV-ibleUnkXGMEY2LXdrG3U-gE0AWLldhIx12bdYhLrniqr1ym5I3ecf/s320/blogger-image--959949602.jpg" width="240" /> </a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
This was a learning curve for me. I remember when I first started knitting, it took me a minute to realize, if you make the exact same mistake 3 times, it becomes a part of the plan. That's what I went with with these two little cloths. Three times I ripped out the seams and called myself turning the fabric around so that the good side would be facing in. So I could sew and flip and have the seam on the inside. With kids running around and trying to help with homework while trying to do this, I must have been some kind of distracted, all three times, I flipped it with good side facing up, so, just like with my knitting, I finally just went with it. I will see what they look like after they are washed, if they come out looking good, I will add them to the set as wash cloths, since the seam is on the outside, I don't feel like they are good enough to give as a gift, but we will see what happens. If I don't add them to the set, I have me the cutest little pot holders ever! </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<br />

<div style="text-align: center;">
Either way, I think the burp cloths came out absolutely adorable! </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjWGSp5UGCmyLKcQ_xWshcPRmVpFQ2bhqtfKGv5Iy8zVQzg4Q0VZd4NhnExh7P1korATMYJ1Lr5vZD76DclDLWNa6DwZt8kE25N6Ih6DRdfKs5NXQ1iYezJvEivMYHvTqKfaMeA/s640/blogger-image-1174074945.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="240" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjWGSp5UGCmyLKcQ_xWshcPRmVpFQ2bhqtfKGv5Iy8zVQzg4Q0VZd4NhnExh7P1korATMYJ1Lr5vZD76DclDLWNa6DwZt8kE25N6Ih6DRdfKs5NXQ1iYezJvEivMYHvTqKfaMeA/s320/blogger-image-1174074945.jpg" width="320" /></a></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<br />
<br />
<br />
This was my first time doing anything besides a straight stitch. I added this zigzag stitch around the receiving blanket to add a little bit of a decorative border. It's the best my machine can do. I didn't go out and buy one of the nice, fancy, expensive machines, YET. I just went with el cheapo I had at home. So this is the fanciest I could get. But I like it. Simple charm!</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhWAYkQ4uqUMCOZ7vseYNuGzV-0Z-05J2AvlEZZrjMeRj8x3NB01gEw2JWhs1JEq6OBtPXbH4xtqyPxo6rknZjfUnYQ3IXU_jvgs__sa8Hwv4eeTPmpDjQ-5NRma9mNt5FRJipY/s640/blogger-image-1676950570.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhWAYkQ4uqUMCOZ7vseYNuGzV-0Z-05J2AvlEZZrjMeRj8x3NB01gEw2JWhs1JEq6OBtPXbH4xtqyPxo6rknZjfUnYQ3IXU_jvgs__sa8Hwv4eeTPmpDjQ-5NRma9mNt5FRJipY/s320/blogger-image-1676950570.jpg" width="240" /></a></div>
<br />
<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
The hardest part for me about doing the blanket was cutting the fabric down to size. I measured and remeasured and cut and messed up and remeasured and cut again. I finally got frustrated and free hand cut what I thought was a good size blanket (I know, I know) and then measured, perfect! </div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
Getting the second side to match was easy peasy after that.</div>
<br />

<br />
<div style="text-align: center;">
As a self proclaimed expert on loss of body heat, I can tell you, covering your head and the center of your chest will keep you as toasty warm as you can be, no matter how cold you are. </div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
Trust me, this is from years of trying to get warm while everyone else is pulling up their sleeves and fanning themselves with whatever they can find.</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
I am literally that cold natured.</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
This pattern covers both areas, the head and the chest, nicely. </div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
The hooded cowl would be a great idea for someone like me, in fact, this will be mine before the beginning of winter. </div>
<div style="text-align: center;">

<div style="text-align: center;">
Not that I could look as sweet in it as she does but hey, function before form. I don't care if I look like Hagar or the Pilsbury dough boy as long as I am not freezing my biscuits off.</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
This sewing project is perfect for someone like me who, even with a pair of gloves on, can get tingling fingertips within five minutes of being outside in the cold. </div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
I never even thought about using pocket warmers until my daughter started working at the local shipyard and she swore by them. But they can get a big pricey, especially if you can make some for yourself out of an scrap fabric you have laying around and some rice. </div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<a href="http://imake2.blogspot.co.uk/2013/01/pocket-warmers.html" target="_blank">Pocket warmers! </a></div>

<div style="text-align: center;">
And these heat packs, they will be perfect for warming my always, even in the dead of summer, freezing toes. And anything with a name like this is a must have in my book!</div>

<div style="text-align: center;">
Top it all of with this cozy looking sweater and I think I might stay a little warmer this winter.</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
